Report of the Director of Veterans Services
It was an interesting year for veterans in the town of Randolph. It started out with the passing of one of citizens in October 2006. He lived alone and was thought to be a veteran. Through diligent work by both the police Department’s Detective Richard Lucey and me, we found him to be a veteran and were able to bury him in Bourne National Cemetery with the military honors that every veteran deserves. The year continued with the announcement that a Korean War veteran who was killed in action November 27, 1950 had been found and was being returned. Corporal Robert Imrie was interred in Arlington National Cemetery on July 23, 2007. The Distinguished Service Cross was awarded posthumously to Corporal Imrie for his actions. A delegation of nine citizens consisting of
Director of Veterans Services James Campbell, Selectman James Burgess, Fire Chief Charles Foley, Fire Captain James Hurley, Retired Director of Veterans’ and Elder affairs James Hurley, AMVETS State Commander Randy Boothby, William O’Connell, Robert Rull, and Fred Hanson reporter for the Patriot Ledger represented the Town of Randolph. It was commented by the staff at the Ft. Myers Chapel that it was extremely unusual for such a large group, representing a Town to attend the internment of a veteran after so many years.
Four hundred and sixty one (461) of the Town’s veterans receive benefits from the VA and the Commonwealth, bringing nearly $3.5 million dollars into our community. These entitlement and the Chapter 115 benefits help to aid the men and women who served our country and defended our freedom.
Respectfully submitted,
James H. Campbell,
Director Veterans’ Services
