2007 ANNUAL REPORT OF THE
DIRECTOR OF ELDER AFFAIRS
We applied for grants again this year to fund much needed services. We received over $63,000 in aid. The money was used to provide an Outreach Worker, Friendly Visitor Services, Caregiver Support Services, medical transportation to Boston and a Senior Aide. We also welcomed our newest member, Dan McEleney, who works in the office one day a week and is also a volunteer driver.
We have had multi-cultural and generational programs. In February we celebrated the Lunar New Year with authentic Chinese food, entertainment and prizes. Also high school students from the African American Club came to the Center and performed African dances, read poems, sang and read some of their own works. There was a birthday party for our seniors who were 90+ and everyone received a “Birthday Citation” from Senator Joyce’s office. “Ten Weeks between Generations” matched high school seniors, who made phone calls to their elder counterparts. After ten weeks, both groups met for the first time at a wonderful get-together sponsored by the Norfolk County Sheriff’s office.
We now have a new roof at the Senior Center (no more bailing water) and are awaiting the arrival of our new van this spring. Thanks to Lombardo’s fund raiser, we already have the Town’s 20% required portion. We would like to thank Dunkin Donuts, the Christmas Tree Shop, Sudbury Farms and Cedar Hill for their continued support.
Thank you to Dot Sullivan, President of the C.O.A. and Ginny Winters, President of the Friends of Randolph Seniors along with their Board Members. Thank you also to all our volunteers on the front line and to those individuals behind the scene. Thank you to our dedicated staff; office personnel, Liz Bouche, Mary McLellan, Gail Hymovitz and Ginny Winters; Outreach Worker, Brenda Margolis; Friendly Visitor and Caregiver Support, Helen Lam; and van driver, Elsie Morrill.
Even through adversity, we will continue to persevere. Therefore, we look forward to making additional strides in addressing the needs of our senior population.
Respectfully submitted,
Rena E. Baker, Director
Dept. of Elder Affairs
