Animal Welfare Committee Annual Report 2007
The Animal Welfare Committee has continued in 2007 to overhaul the town’s animal related by-laws. The committee looked at Dangerous Dog By-laws. There were several public meetings held which brought people, organizations and officials out to discuss this important topic. The Animal Welfare Committee was sensitive to these views, revisions were made and the final article passed easily at the 2007 Annual Town Meeting.
This year also brought a better relationship with the Board of Selectmen allowing the Animal Welfare Committee to be more active in all animal issues. The committee holds meetings in which we continue to discuss town animal by-laws, but we also discuss budgets, animal health issues and hold mediation sessions when needed.
In the coming year the Animal Welfare Committee will strive to complete an “Emergency Animal Plan” for the town. This will hopefully compliment the emergency plans the Board of Health has in place for the residents of Randolph.
The Animal Welfare Committee continues to look forward to assisting any board, committee or commission that deals with animal issues.
We would like to thank Linda Sproules in the Selectman’s office, the Town Clerk’s office and the Animal Control Officer for their assistance this year. Also we would like to thank the general public who attended our meetings to let their opinions be heard and Mr. Hanson (Patriot Ledger) and Mr. Barry (Enterprise) for keeping the public informed.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jean M. Duddy, DVM, Chairman Madeline Kiniklis, Co-Vice Chairman
Paul Camiel, Co-Vice Chairman Toby-Lynne Schwartz
