2007
ANNUAL REPORT OF THE
ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER/ANIMAL
INSPECTOR
Your Animal Control Office received over three thousand calls and complaints made by the Police Department, the Selectmen’s Office, the Animal Rescue League, police from neighboring towns, the School Department, and the citizens of Randolph.
There were 59 dog bites and 6 cat bites to humans. There were 97 dogs and cats that had to be quarantined due to unknown origins. The heads of 36 skunks, 24 woodchucks, 3 cats, 2 bats, 28 raccoons, and 2 crows were brought to the Wasserman Laboratory for analysis. Sixteen skunks, 1 bat, and 11 raccoons were confirmed with rabies. One crow was diagnosed with the West Nile virus.
There were more than 2,000 dead animals of varying species picked up on our streets. Ten barn inspections of the holders of animal/livestock permits were completed.
There were 1,498 dogs licensed in the Town of Randolph. One hundred and forty-one dogs were picked up on our streets. Most of the dogs were reunited with their owners, except for 58 which were adopted out to new and happy homes. Additionally, 68 cases were heard at Quincy District Court and 2 were mediated by the Animal Welfare Committee.
I would like to thank the Animal Welfare Committee for their assistance and hard work this year, especially Dr. Jean Duddy, Chairperson of the Animal Welfare Committee, for her dedication and expertise to the Animal Control Office. I would like to give a special thanks to the Town Clerk’s Office and Lt. Richard Crowley for their assistance to the Animal Control Office.
Finally, I would like to thank the citizens of Randolph for licensing and keeping their dogs leashed as well as for their support and assistance during this year.
Respectfully Submitted,
Stephen R. Slavinsky,
Animal Control Officer/Animal Inspector
